JOB DESCRIPTION
CRIMINAL JUSTICE COORDINATOR
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Criminal Justice Coordinator is responsible for implementing the NAMI-NYS Criminal Justice Program, as authorized by the NAMI-NYS board of directors.
Training/Education:
- Be knowledgeable about current issues affecting families and family member with mental illness involved in the criminal justice system.
- Develop and present regional conferences to education criminal justice professionals about mental health issues.
- Develop and present regional conferences to better educate families and consumers about criminal justice issues.
- Where such conferences exist, work with other agencies to plan these conferences.
Develop and present training sessions for affiliate leaders on the issues that are germane to families in the criminal justice system.
- Provide follow-up through the web site and educational material distributed to members of the affiliates.
- Produce and distribute informational packets for law enforcement agencies and the judicial system.
- Create a user-friendly resource guide for families, recipients, and professionals in the criminal justice system.
Outreach:
- Develop contacts and working relationships within the criminal justice system.
- Assist individuals with mental illness, and their families, in navigating the criminal justice system.
